Persistence Social Distance 12-Hour Run/Relay

CGTC PSD 12 Hour Run/Relay

About

RACE DATE: Saturday May 9, 2020 at 8am (EDT)

While we are all social distancing, the idea of this race is to run together, connecting through social media, Strava and ZOOM.

This race will consist of 12 runs. One run per hour from 8am to 8pm. The runs can be completed as a relay team or by a single person. Runners can run as much (or as little) as they can complete in 50 minutes each hour. With the other 10 minutes used to upload your run, catch your breath, and socialize by zoom.

The team and person with the most miles wins.

For example, the first run must start at 8:00am and be completed by 8:50am. The runner will then upload their run and log into zoom. The next runner of the team (or the same runner) then starts another run at 9:00am.

Relay teams can be made up of 2–12 runners. Teams may divide the runs up in any quantity or order they want. With the only stipulation that only a single run will count for the team in any given hour.

BANDITS WELCOME

Run times are collected from Strava, so you MUST have a Strava account to be included in the results. You can create a free Strava account if you do not have one. If you don’t care about showing up in the results, then you don’t have to use Strava. You are welcome to participate and we would love to see your face on Zoom!

HARD RULES

  1. All runs must start at or after the top of each hour and finish before 50 min after (10 minutes before the next hour). For example the first run must be within 8:00 am and 8:49:59 am. The next is 9:00 am to 9:49:59 am.
  2. Any run that goes past 50 minutes past the hour will be "cropped". So you only get credit up to that time.
  3. Each run must be counted as a separate activity in Strava and marked as “RUN”.
  4. You are strongly encouraged to upload your runs each hour as soon as you are done, so the live results are up to date. This will provide the spirit of competition and camaraderie seeing how your fellow runners are doing. If uploading immediately is too difficult, runs will be accepted later, but must be posted by 8:15 PM (EDT).
  5. If you do not run with a GPS watch or phone, or if you are running on a treadmill, post a manual activity through Strava.
